Light Signals

Here are the light signals used by the tower to communicate with aircraft in case of radio failure (courtesy of CASA).

On the Ground

Steady green Authorised to TAKE-OFF if pilot is satisfied that no collision risk exists
Flashing green Authorised to TAXI if pilot is satisfied that no collision risk exists
Steady red STOP
Flashing red TAXI CLEAR OF LANDING AREA in use
Flashing white Return to starting point on aerodrome

In Flight

Steady green Authorised to LAND if pilot is satisfied that no collision risk exists
Flashing green RETURN for landing
Steady red GIVE WAY to other aircraft CONTINUE CIRCLING
Flashing red DO NOT LAND Aerodrome unsafe
