Camden

Everything the pilot needs to know about Camden is in ERSA and other publications like the Sydney Basin Visual Pilot Guide (currently out of print), but it does no harm to gather the current essential information here, in the spirit of study revision. Just don't hold me responsible for it being correct or up to date.

Runways

Camden's runways, from ERSA Camden has two runways:

  • 06/24, tarmac, 1464m or 4800 feet.
  • 10/28, grass, 723m or 2400 feet.

There are also parallel runways for glider operations, hence the need for right-hand circuits when using 24 or 28.

Frequencies

ATIS 125.1 MHz or 281 kHz

SMC 121.90 MHz, "Camden Ground". [Not used in practice]

TWR 120.10 MHz, "Camden Tower".

Sydney Radar, 124.55 MHz.

GAAP Procedures

Inbound from Mayfield

Report at Mayfield (6nm NW of Camden) ,eg: "Camden Tower, Citabria RRW, Mayfield, 2200, inbound with Charlie."

Follow Tower's instructions, but the likely tracks are:

  • Runway 06: Track 150°M, join base
  • Runway 24: Track 120°M, join base

CTAF Procedures

Extensively tested in the Pre-Area Solo Exam (though the questions use the terminology MBZ, which has now been superseded by CTAF(R).

Training Area

Training area. Click to enlarge The training area used by Curtis Aviation encompasses Danger Areas D556A and B, and D552. The section on the right is centred on the latter two areas, but shows most of D556A, which ends at the Bankstown GAAP CTR. It stretches fom Prospect Reservoir in the north-east corner almost to Wedderburn in the south east.

See lesson 28 - Advanced turning and the Pre-Area Solo Exam for more information.

WARNING: The image will not necessarily be up to date. In fact the next amendment was due on 26 November 2006. Hopefully a future update will include the M7, and remove "Australia's Wonderland" (which was demolished in 2004 by Malaysian owners Sunway Group to make room for a business park. Thanks guys).
